Further Education Sector Day

Further Education Sector Day

Over the last 6 months NPS has continued to engage with Further Education (FE) colleges in Wales to better understand the sector and improve access to collaborative procurement opportunities.

The 1st NPS FE Sector Day took place on 22 September, with 9 out of 14 colleges from across Wales represented. The agenda was designed to encourage as much discussion as possible.

Pete Standfast, Head of Procurement at Cardiff Met University and NPS Board member for Higher Education (HE), opened presentations explaining how HE has adopted the Wales Procurement Policy Statement. There were also guest speakers from Atamis on the Collaborative Spend Analysis project and Barclaycard on Precision Pay, amongst other eProcurement tools.

Attendees also had the opportunity to have one-to-one conversations with NPS category representatives. The chance to ask specific questions was highlighted as one of the major benefits of the day. There was plenty of time for networking between attendees, identifying things the colleges have in common as well as areas where a bespoke approach is needed.

Julie Harrison, Head of Stakeholder and Business Management for the NPS, said:

“It is fantastic to see such a positive level of engagement with the FE sector. This day has been about listening to the sector and ensuring what we deliver meets the need of the FE sector.. We want to facilitate collaboration and enable FE colleges to benefit as much as possible from the services of the NPS.”

Attendees overwhelmingly supported another FE Sector Day, with 90% indicating another day would be useful for them. The next NPS FE Sector Day will take place on 30 November. We’re delighted that Cardiff & Vale College have offered to host this event at their new campus on Dumballs Road. Invitations will be issued to FE colleges shortly.
