Saving more than a third on vehicle spares

Saving more than a third on vehicle spares

A new NPS case study shows how Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council achieved savings of 35% on vehicle spares by using a new managed service framework.

Historically, complexity prevented procurement on an all Wales basis. However, by working with our customers, the NPS overcame the challenges. We have implemented a one stop shop managed service. The service embraces local needs while still driving economies of scale.

The council is making substantial cash savings by using the NPS framework for the Supply of Vehicle Spares and Associated Products. In one example, it saved more than three times its previous costs - £1,117.28 - on just one invoice by using Fleetwheel.

The framework offers a quicker, more flexible delivery of spares, getting vehicles back into service fast. It supports the local economy, actively encouraging local suppliers to trade with NPS customers through the managed service provider.

The council has saved on office workload by consolidating invoicing. It is easier to deal with one point of contact who will find savings by testing the market and the route to market is compliant with EU procurement regulations.

The framework is future proofed to meet changing needs, enhances the visibility of spend and provides consistent prices across Wales for like-for-like spares.

Kevin Lewis, Fleet Manager, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, said:

“For some time we discussed a route to procuring spares in a compliant way across the Welsh public sector. This is a major spend area for all local authorities and something that was long overdue. Previous attempts to put a framework in place had failed due to the amount of work involved. However, with their experience with the North Wales Procurement Partnership, the NPS has produced a workable framework.”
