Has your organisation signed up to the Code of Practice on Ethical Employment in Supply Chains?

Has your organisation signed up to the Code of Practice on Ethical Employment in Supply Chains?

More public sector bodies, including the Welsh Universities, the 4 police forces and 4 local authorities have now formally signed up to the Code of Practice on Ethical Employment in Supply Chains.

The code is designed to ensure that workers in public sector supply chains are employed legally and fairly, and that slavery and unethical employment practices are not tolerated.

It is not a requirement to have every policy for eradicating unethical practices in place for sign up. Organisations must be willing to commit to taking action and be working towards implementing all of the policies in their supply chains.

The Welsh Government is promoting the code to suppliers through NPS procurement activity and through its own Corporate Procurement Services. Consequently Welsh Government suppliers are beginning to sign up in greater numbers.

We have also established a public sector community of interest to share progress and expertise around the sector. The group will meet for the fist time on 8 February 2018 in Swansea. The meeting this will consist of a series of parallel workshops for sharing good practice on addressing some of the code’s commitments.

If you would like to join the group or attend the workshop please let us know by emailing sue.hurrell@gov.wales

A webpage which shows some practical guides to help put the code into practice is available on the Welsh Government website: www.wales.gov.uk/code-of-practice
